The Society has relocated!

Are you interested in Civil War History and African-American history? Then, please join the Jackson County Genealogical Society on February 6, Saturday from 10:30 to noon at the Trails West Branch of the Kansas City Library, in Classroom A.

In honor of Black History Month in February, a DVD on the “Battle of Island Mound” fought in 1862 in Bates County, in Butler, south of Kansas City will be shown. This production describes the bravery and determination of the First Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry was the first time that black troops fought in the Civil War. Local relatives tell about their ancestors who served in that battle.

Our JCGS Research Library has moved to the State Bank Building at 625 N Sterling Ave, Suite 400 in Sugar Creek. We are open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00am to 4:00pm or by appointment.

Please call us at 252-8128 if you would like assistance with your research or have questions about the program. The Society’s collection focuses on material and records for Jackson County Missouri and the surrounding area, but we also have genealogical materials related to other areas of Missouri and Kansas.
