The JCGS Library is located in the historic Truman Depot (Amtrak station), 1111 W. Pacific Avenue in Independence, three blocks west of the Bingham-Waggoner Mansion and the National Frontier Trails Center, and south of the Community of Christ (RLDS) Auditorium.
The Society's collection focuses on material and records for Jackson County MO and the surrounding area, but we also have genealogical materials related to many other areas of the country. Resources include: indexed ancestor charts, surname files and obituaries; microfilmed census, deed, marriage and probate records; publications from numerous organizations located around the country; and a library that numbers over 4,200 volumes. JCGS members have checkout privileges for many of these books (non-reference).
With the recent acquisition of new computer equipment and the installation of a high-speed internet connection, our library staff can now access county, state and other online records for our members and visitors.
